Inside view of Café Weimar

The Café Weimar is a Viennese tradition Café in Vienna's 9th district Alsergrund at the address Währinger Straße 68, near the Volksoper .

The restaurant is located in an apartment building built in 1880 by Fellner & Helmer , the well-known theater architects, for the Viennese city councilor Carl Schuh , which initially also housed the Schuhs furniture and upholstery business. In 1898 Schuh retired and in 1900 a Viennese coffee house was built on the ground floor, which was first called "Cafe Orleans". Probably for reasons of war patriotism, it was renamed “Cafe Weimar”.

The restaurant is the meeting point for theater-goers and artists from the nearby Volksoper, the former Kaiser-Jubilee municipal theater. In front of the building there is a so-called bishop's staff, a replica of one of the popular, elegant Art Nouveau candelabras , which were once an essential design element of Schwarzenbergplatz in Vienna .

The owner has been KR Maximilian Platzer (born July 26, 1952) since 1981 .

At the beginning of February 2017, Café Weimar filed for bankruptcy at the Commercial Court of Vienna to initiate restructuring proceedings without self-administration .

In autumn 2017, Hans Diglas jun. the café and has continued it under the previous name of Café Weimar.
