Cafea is a Hamburg- based holding company in the coffee trade , whose history dates back to 1922. In addition to coordinating the subsidiaries, the green coffee purchases are the responsibility of the cafea.

In addition to Deutsche Extrakt Kaffee (DEK) in Hamburg, DEK Deutsche Extrakt Kaffee in Berlin , EDEL in Lüttich , Milcafea in Rathenow , FFI in Dunstable , GRANA in Skawina and CREMILK in Kappeln are part of the holding company. The group of companies employs around 1500 people.

A number of internationally active companies developed around DEK by 1981. These were combined in 1981 under the KORD holding company. In 2007 the KORD was renamed the “Cafea Group”.

In 1993 Milcafe GmbH was founded in Rathenow. As of September 2008, it had 143 employees.

In the mid-1990s, a state-owned facility in Venezuela was sold to the group and since then has been manufacturing products for export as "CAFEA". In May 2009, CAFEA employees occupied the plant after it had been shut down for five months. Work was suspended because the plant did not receive a government import permit for green coffee from Costa Rica .

The branches in Hamburg, Berlin, Rathenow and Liège are located on “Cafeastraße”.
