Cairn by Ville Pichard
The heavily overgrown Cairn of Ville Pichard (also called Cairn à trois Dolmens or Dolmen de Ville-Pichard ) is located on a cliff overlooking the tidal island Île du Verdelet , north of Pléneuf-Val-André in the Côtes-d'Armor department in the Brittany in France . In France, dolmen is the generic term for Neolithic megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).
In the approximately 25.0 × 10.0 m measuring, more than five meter high hill are the remains of three round dolmens from the Middle Neolithic with non-preserved tholoi made of dry masonry (as in Barnenez ) and 2.5 to 4.4 m long accesses .
- Chamber 1 has a 2.5 m long and 0.6 m wide corridor. Only one bearing stone was preserved from the chamber.
- Chamber 2 has a 3.6 m long and 0.6 m wide passage that is delimited by 16 side panels.
- Chamber 3 consists of 18 supporting stones, its passage is 4.4 m long and 0.60 m wide.
The megalithic complexes were excavated in 1887 and placed under protection in 1965. The excavation provided only in chamber 3 findings: 16 pebbles, three blades and three arrowheads from flint , fragments of a vase and a scraper .
