The Zukunftsstiftung Entwicklung is a foundation that promotes ecologically and socially sustainable development in selected projects in Asia , Africa and Latin America .

Future Foundation Development

The Zukunftsstiftung Entwicklung wants to fight the causes of poverty, hunger and need worldwide. To this end, it helps people to shape their living conditions in a self-reliant and self-determined manner, it promotes overcoming hierarchical structures, especially in favor of women, and strives to establish permanent regional structures.

According to its statutes, the goals of the Zukunftsstiftung Entwicklung are:

  • Development cooperation
  • Promotion of upbringing, as well as national and vocational training, including student aid at home and abroad.

To achieve the goals of the articles of association

a) the foundation promotes and accompanies development cooperation projects that enable self-determined and participatory ways of life and help for self-help;

b) the foundation grants and arranges assistance for people who live in poverty, hunger and need. Such support can also consist of enabling school attendance (for example through sponsorships), vocational training, income-generating measures and health care and welfare projects;

c) the foundation provides information and education and carries out public relations work in order to establish new models in the field of development cooperation, taking into account the existing disadvantages of people living in poor countries and helping to overcome poverty, hunger and need.

Especially in ecological agricultural and manageable commercial enterprises, the basis for a sustainable establishment and maintenance of existence is seen, taking into account traditional and cultural forms.

The foundation works together with other institutions that are recognized as particularly worthy of support at home or abroad and that pursue charitable purposes in the field of development cooperation or education.

The Zukunftsstiftung Entwicklung is an independent foundation that is part of the GLS Treuhand eV . The organs of the foundation are the foundation council and the management.

The foundation board of the future foundation development consists of six elected members and advises the management.

The foundation was established in 2001 from the development aid fund that has been working at GLS Treuhand since 1980 . The founding donors contributed an initial capital of 122,710 euros. Thanks to endowments, donations with circulation and estates, the equity amounts to 2.79 million euros (2016). The foundation is economically independent and finances itself through donations and foundation income.

Other foundations within the GLS Treuhand eV include the Education Future Foundation, the Health Future Foundation and the Agriculture Future Foundation . The GLS Gemeinschaftbank eG emerged from the GLS Treuhand. Both organizations cooperate closely. The headquarters of the Zukunftsstiftung Entwicklung, GLS Treuhand and GLS Bank are in Bochum.

Fields of activity

The foundation presents its work as follows: "The Development Future Foundation cooperates with 84 projects in 20 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. With the support of the local partners, the foundations for an independent life in dignity are laid." It "promotes initiative people in the following areas: organic agriculture, emancipatory education, holistic basic health promotion, including complementary medicine, regenerative energy, as well as microloans and the expansion of small businesses. In most projects these areas are intertwined." "Experience shows that change and development processes lead to success when committed people are active on site, with the aim of making their initiatives economically viable in the long term."

Project funding

According to the annual report, 50.5% of the grants were used for Africa, 37.7% for Asia and 8.7% for Latin America. The largest share was due to the promotion of organic farming (39.7%), in second place were schools and education (25.6%), and third (15.7%). 6.0% was spent on renewable energies, 4.1% on basic health care, and 3.7% on human and environmental rights. Overall, projects were funded with a little over 3,105,000 euros, including a BMZ grant of 899,000 euros.

Awards

  • The future foundation development was awarded the donation seal of the German Central Institute for Social Issues for special transparency and efficiency.
  • The women's platform Edition F , in cooperation with ZEIT online and Handelsblatt 2018, voted Annette Massmann from the Zukunftsstiftung Entwicklung among the "25 women who are revolutionizing our economy".
