Cairnfield House

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cairnfield House is a mansion near the Scottish village of Buckie in the Council Area Moray . In 1972 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists, initially in category B. The upgrade to the highest monument category A took place in 1989.

history

The mansion was completed around 1802. The design is attributed to the Scottish architect John Paterson . Although Paterson had already moved his office from Elgin to Edinburgh ten years earlier , it is known that around 1800 he carried out various works, including the Lakeside House of Gordon Castle , for the Duke of Gordon in Moray. At the site there was a previous building, from which the staff pavilion built in the second half of the 18th century was integrated into the structure. Until the 1970s, Cairnfield House was the headquarters of the Gordons of Cairnfield .

description

Cairnfield House is isolated on the Burn of Cairnfield about three kilometers southwest of the center of Buckie. The main facade of the two-storey mansion, which is exposed to the northwest, is three axes wide. At the central risalit , the two-winged main portal crowned by a cornice is accessible via a fanning out front staircase. A Venetian window with a keystone is let in above the pilastrated portal . On the garden-side center projections, however, the Venetian window can be found at ground level, while a triple window was let in on the upper floor , the central window of which is blind. The building closes with a slate-covered platform roof . A single-storey kitchen wing from the mid-20th century continues on the southwest side.
