Cairns Shoal is a shoal on the north coast of South Georgia . In the eastern part of Right Whale Bay , it is 1 km west of Craigie Point .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the shoal in 1964 after Petty Officer Peter T. Cairns of the Royal Navy , who was involved in the discovery and hydrographic survey of this geographic object on board the ship HMS Owen in 1961 .
