Beaches and bays in Mallorca

Caló des Parral is a small bay with a pebble beach in the northeast of the Balearic island of Mallorca . It is located seven kilometers northwest of the small town of Artà .

Location and description

Bridge at the Torrent de sa Font des Parral

The Caló des Parral is located on the north coast of Mallorca on the Badia d'Alcúdia ('Bay of Alcúdia '), directly on the northern edge of the closed development of the village of Colonia de Sant Pere , which, like the Caló des Parral, belongs to the municipality of Artà. Here the torrent of sa Font des Parral flows into the Mediterranean Sea , which rises in the mountains of Artà, part of the Serres de Llevant , near es Banc de s'Oli . The stream only carries water after heavy rainfall. Immediately before the estuary, a road bridge leads over the Torrent de sa Font des Parral . The road runs from Colonia de Sant Pere along the coast towards the northeast and ends at Cala des Camps . To the east of the Caló des Parral is the larger Cala de s'Estret .

The sea inlet of the Caló des Parral is about 280 meters wide. A retaining wall was built on the southwest side of the bay to secure the higher level of the Colonia de Sant Pere promenade on the sea side. It stretches along the bed of the stream inland to the road bridge over the Torrent de sa Font des Parral . There is a parking lot on the outskirts next to the bridge. The southeast side of the Caló des Parral is undeveloped. This is where the approximately 130 meters long and 10 meters wide pebble beach stretches, which is accessed from the town's promenade in the west. There are medium-sized stones in the water and on the southwest side of the beach. Due to its nature, the beach is less visited than the 320 meters away sandy beach within the village of Colonia de Sant Pere.

Access

From the main road MA-12 between Artà and Alcúdia , the MA-3331 branches off towards the north to Colònia de Sant Pere. From this, spur roads lead to the northwest, one directly into the center of the town, the second behind the town to Cala de s'Estret. If you follow the latter, you will reach the coastal road to Cala des Camps, but to get to Caló des Parral you have to go west towards Colonia de Sant Pere. Before entering the village, the small bay can be seen from the bridge over the Torrent de sa Font des Parral .
