Beaches and bays in Mallorca

Cala Anguila (' Eel Bay ') is a sea bay and a settlement named after it in the east of the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca . The bay is located on the coast of the municipality of Manacor, southwest of Porto Cristo .

Location and description

Cala Anguila

The Cala Anguila is within the same named village, which is about 20 meters located above the sea level of the bay. It is bordered by the capes Punta de Cala Anguila in the west and Na Vermella in the east. Immediately to the south-west is the somewhat larger Cala Mendia , both of which form a common sea inlet. The main town of the municipality of Manacor is 9.6 kilometers northwest of Cala Anguila , the next larger town, Porto Cristo, is 1.8 kilometers northeast.

On the north side of Cala Anguila is the approximately 50 meters long and 100 meters wide sandy beach . It is framed by flat rocky cliffs with pine trees and bushes. The Regueró de Cala Anguila flows into the beach, which no longer has water due to the parceling and development of the settlements of Porto Cristo Novo and Cala Anguila . Even before that, the water level was dependent on the amount of rain in the immediate vicinity of the bay. In the season, loungers and parasols are set up for hire on the sandy area of the beach. There is a restaurant right behind the beach.

On the west side of the bay there is the half-overgrown remains of a former quarry , in the Marès - limestone was mined. The south-eastern cliff is dominated by a surf cave, which is only visible from the sea and which was created when the rock was washed out by the sea surf .

Access

From the MA-4014 road between Porto Cristo and Cales de Mallorca , two branches lead to the southeast, which lead to the settlement on the cliff on both sides of Cala Anguila . You can park freely in the settlement above the bay. A paved road leads from Passeig Alfonso XII to the beach. Further entrances are via stairs.
