Beaches and bays in Mallorca

Cala Mendia ( Castilian Cala Mandia ) is a sea bay and a settlement named after it in the east of the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca . The bay is located on the coast of the municipality of Manacor, southwest of Porto Cristo .

Location and description

Cala Mendia

The Cala Mendia is located within the settlement named after it, which is about 20 to 30 meters above the sea level of the bay. It is bordered by the capes Morro de Ponent de Cala Mendia in the south and Punta de Cala Anguila in the north. Immediately to the northeast is the somewhat smaller Cala Anguila , both of which form a common sea inlet. The main town of the municipality of Manacor is 9.5 kilometers northwest of Cala Mendia , the next larger town, Porto Cristo, 2.2 kilometers northeast.

On the west side of Cala Mendia is the 80 meter long and 120 meter wide sandy beach . It slopes gently into the sea and is framed by flat rocks on which pine and bushes grow. The Regueró de Cala Mendia , which rises two kilometers northwest at Cas Capellà, flows into the beach . It seldom carries water after heavy rainfall. In the season, loungers and parasols are set up for hire on the sandy area of the beach. Directly behind the beach is a restaurant that also serves as a beach bar.

About 500 meters southwest of Cala Mendia is the beach of s'Estany d'en Mas , also called Cala Romàntica , which is joined by the natural area of special value (Àrea natural d'especial interès - ANAI) of the Cales Verges de Manacor . The settlements of the three bays, Cala Anguila , Cala Mendia and S'Estany d'en Mas , have grown together into one place over the last few decades.

Access

From the MA-4014 road between Porto Cristo and Cales de Mallorca , Carrer Marco Polo leads southeast to Punta de Cala Anguila . To the right of the road is the Cala Mendia settlement. From Passeig Federico García Lorca a paved road leads down to the beach. The settlement can also be reached from S'Estany d'en Mas via Carrer de Cala Mendia . The Carrer de Cala Falcó forms the connecting road between the two settlements.
