Location and description

Cala Barques beach

Cala Barques is located on the north coast of Mallorca, 14.4 kilometers west of the northernmost point of the island, the Cap de Formentor . With the neighboring bays of Cala Clara , Cala Molins and Cala Carbó to the east , the Cala Barques forms the larger sea inlet of the Cala de Sant Vicenç between the Punta de Coves Blanques and the Morro de Bóquer . Cala Clara is a direct side bay of Cala Barques, while Cala Molins and Cala Carbó, further to the east, are separated from Cala Barques and Cala Clara by the small peninsula of El Maressar , which, after a former watchtower, is also called Punta de sa Torre is called. At the Cala Barques which opens torrent Torrent de les Rotes Velles , in the mountains of Serra de Sant Vicenç originates.

The shore of the sandy beach of Cala Barques is 68 meters long. It is framed by a rocky coast, which is higher on the northwest side than in the southeast. There are also some small rocks in the shallow water . On the west side of the bay there is an escar , a shelter for boats, built on the rock wall. The width of the beach is approximately 50 meters. About half of the area has umbrellas under which loungers can be rented. The beach is cleaned daily during the season. A pine forest begins on the west side , while the south and east sides of the beach are built on. In the east, on Cape Punta des Ferrers between Cala Barques and Cala Clara, there is a larger hotel. There is a small parking lot to the south behind the beach. Due to its internal location in the village of Cala Sant Vicenç, the beach is well attended. Strong waves often occur in northern winds.

Access

The road to Cala Sant Vicenç branches off the MA-2200 road between Pollença and Port de Pollença towards the north. After 3.1 kilometers you will reach the entrance to Cala Sant Vicenç. From there the distance to Cala Molins is about 900 meters. The beach is located on the southwest side of the bay, west of Cala Clara and the El Maressar or Punta de sa Torre peninsula .
