Cala Goloritzè is a small, wild bay with a white pebble beach belonging to the municipality of Baunei , located at the southern end of the Gulf of Orosei , north of Cape Monte Santo, in the province of Nuoro .

Description and history

The bay or beach, one of the most impressive in Sardinia , was created in 1962 by a landslide. It is particularly known for the 100 m high rock needle L'Aguglia made of limestone - also called Punta Caroddi - a natural monument that rises 43 meters above the beach, and the natural rock gate L'Arco di Goloritzè , which closes the bay to the south . In the 1980s, the cove was first by climbers as Maurizio Zanolla and Alessandro Gogna, the Punta Caroddi 1981 as first climbed by Freeclimbern become known. In 1993 a 13.24 hectare nature reserve was set up around the bay, and in 1995 Cala Goloritzè was an Italian national monument. Since the summer of 2007, access from the sea has been completely closed to ships and motor boats in a 200 m zone in order to limit the influx of tourists.

Fresh spring water leaks from a crevice on the beach and pours into the sea.

practical information

Day cruises like those offered from Santa Maria Navarrese and Cala Gonone make a photo stop at the bay.

Cala Goloritzè can only be reached by sea or via a path that descends from the Su Golgo plateau . The one and a half hour hike overcomes 470 meters of altitude, along the way you pass rock caves that were previously used by shepherds and old holm oaks. The starting point is the guarded parking lot at the Bar Su Porteddu , the approach is from Baunei.
