List of grape varieties

Calandro is a red wine variety with medium resistance to downy mildew and medium to high resistance to powdery mildew . This new breed was crossed in 1984 at the Geilweilerhof Institute for Vine Breeding between the Domina and Regent varieties . Plant variety protection was granted in 2009.

Due to its resistance to powdery mildew, the plant protection can be reduced by 60–80% compared to traditional grape varieties. The resistance to gray mold rot is rated as high.

Calandro produces Mediterranean wines that are described as full-bodied, full-bodied, rich in tannins and brightly colored. A high tannin content requires longer ripening phases, but the wine is then characterized by a long shelf life. It is very suitable for a barrel expansion . The mixture of aromas is reminiscent of berries and smoky notes.
