Calanesia karsholti is a butterfly from the family of Chrysopeleiidae .

features

The moths reach a wingspan of 13 to 16 millimeters. The head is smoothly scaled and gray. The antennae are 3/4 as long as the fore wings. The antennae base member ( scapus ) is long and wide. The labial palps are cylindrical and curved up over the head. The thorax is gray, dark gray on the sides and back. The tegulae are bordered dark gray and light gray.

The front wings are broadly lanceolate and have a gray-white basic color. They taper distally and are drawn there along the veins with clear, narrow, dark gray longitudinal lines. A broad gray line extends from the base of the forewing to half the length of the wing. It tapers towards the base and is speckled in light gray. A narrow dark gray dorsal band extends from the base towards the apex . It is mixed in light gray. On the anal fold there is an elongated dark gray spot at 1/3 of the fore wing length. A similar spot is above the interior angle at 2/3 of the forewing length. In the apical area there is a series of dark gray lines. The fringed scales shine gray. The gray, shiny hind wings are lanceolate and half as wide as the forewings. The abdomen is dorsal ocher gray and shines laterally and ventrally light gray.

In the males the uncus is very long and strong. It is strongly curved in the middle and severely sclerotized . The apex is pointed. The tegumen is short and wide. The blades are quite short and strong and quite narrow at the base. They widen in front of the middle to a sparsely bristled, bulbous part. On the inner surface there is a long, strong, slightly curved stinger. This is surrounded by five to six bristles of equal length. The aedeagus is long and slender, the cornuti are not developed. It is only slightly curved and gradually tapers distally. The apex is blunt.

In females, the apophyses are about the same length. The anterior apophyses are connected by a wide, V-shaped ligament. The ostium is surrounded by a large genital plate on the anterior part of the seventh sternite . The genital plate is wide and trapezoidal, the lateral edges are rounded. The posterior margin is notched and provided with two heavily sclerotized oval spots that are connected to the ostium.

The ductus bursae is long and membranous. It is narrow at the ostium and gradually widens towards the corpus bursae. The corpus bursae is small and egg-shaped and has two tooth-like signs.

distribution
