The Caleta Aldea ( Spanish ; in Argentina Caleta Tarragona ) is the northern of the two side bays of Mackellar Inlet in Admiralty Bay of King George Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is located northeast of the Caleta Aguilera .
Chilean scientists named it after Juan de Dios Aldea Fonseca (1853–1879), a key figure in the naval battles of Iquique and Punta Gruesa on May 21, 1879 in the Chilean-Bolivian-Peruvian saltpeter war . The background of the Argentine naming is not known.
