The Calicut International Airport , also Calicut International Airport , on Malayalam : കോഴിക്കോട് അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര വിമാനത്താവളം is an Indian airport near the city of Kozhikode , Calicut also, in the state of Kerala .
As of 2007, the airport operated by the Airports Authority of India is India 's eighth largest airport in terms of international passengers. The airport currently serves as the hub for Air India's low-cost subsidiary, Air India Express , which is the largest local airline. Together with a number of other airlines, Calicut Airport is primarily connected to the destinations on the Arabian Peninsula that are important for guest workers, but also to other Indian destinations.
Incidents
- On August 7, 2020, a Boeing 737-8HG (WL) of Air India Express (VT-AXH) coming from Dubai overshot the runway end of runway 28 of the airport, killing at least 18 out of 190 people on board (see also Air-India -Express flight 1344 ) .
