Callipogon relictus is a beetle species and belongs to the family of longhorn beetles (Cerambycidae).

features

The beetles are 58 to 108 millimeters long. The large, pincer-like mandibles , which are reminiscent of those of the stag beetles (Lucanidae), are striking .

distribution

Callipogon relictus is the only representative of its genus in the Far East . It occurs in eastern Siberia , northeast China and in North and South Korea .

Way of life

The female lays more than 20 eggs on the bark of trees such as the Japanese chestnut oak ( Quercus acutissima ), the Siberian elm ( Ulmus pumila ) or Carpinus laxiflora .
