Callitris baileyi is a species of plant from the family of the cypress family (Cupressaceae). It is native to the eastern part of Australia.

description

Callitris baileyi grows as an evergreen , narrow tree that can reach heights of up to 18 meters. The gray bark is rough.

The leaves are in groups of three on the branches. The green leaves are 2 to 5 millimeters long and are keeled on the back.

Callitris baileyi is single sexed ( monoecious ). The male cones are 2 to 3 millimeters long and are at the branch ends. The female cones standing individually on the branches are elongated to egg-shaped with a diameter of 1.0 to 1.3 centimeters. As they ripen, they are colored gray-blue. Each of the resinous cones carries several seeds which have two unevenly large wings.

Occurrence and endangerment

The natural range of Callitris baileyi extends from southeastern Queensland to northeastern New South Wales .

Callitris baileyi grows mainly on shallow loam soils on rocky slopes, near rivers and in hilly and mountainous regions. There the species is often found in open eucalyptus forests with grass as an undergrowth.

Callitris baileyi is classified as "endangered" in the IUCN Red List . It is pointed out, however, that a new review of the hazard is necessary. The decline in the population due to previous overexploitation is cited as the main risk factor. Callitris baileyi is endangered by logging, overgrazing and forest fires.
