In 1875 the publishing house was already one of the leading European publishers. In 1893, Calmann Lévy's sons, Georges, Paul and Gaston joined the company. They discovered new authors such as Anatole France and Pierre Loti and published one of Marcel Proust's early works, Les plaisirs et les jours ( joys and days ) . The publishing house brought translations by foreign authors such as Maxim Gorki , Luigi Pirandello and DH Lawrence onto the French market.
