The Caloplaca Hills are a group of rocky hills in Marie Byrd Land, West Antarctica . They tower east of the Watson Escarpment on the west flank of the Reedy Glacier . These include Mount Carmer and Heathcock Peak .
The United States Geological Survey mapped them based on their own measurements and aerial photographs of the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named them in 1967 after the lichen of the genus Caloplaca that overgrown the rock of the hills. The naming came on the suggestion of the glaciologist John H. Mercer (1922-1987) of the Ohio State University .
