Systematics
Subdivision : Real ascent mushrooms (Pezizomycotina)
Class : Lecanoromycetes
Subclass : Lecanoromycetidae
Order : Teloschistales
Family : Teloschistaceae
Genre : Caloplaca
Scientific name
Caloplaca
Th.Fr.

The genus Caloplaca includes around 500 species of lichen planus worldwide . There are around 100 species in Central Europe , including around 75 in Germany.

Many species are still insufficiently known due to a lack of clear characteristics and cannot yet be reliably identified.

The species colonize silicate rock, limestone (partly also endolithic ) and base-rich bark. But mosses and plant remains are also colonized. They are widespread up to the high mountains.

The structure of the spores is characteristic. These are polar-2-cell (apart from Caloplaca ochracea up to 4-cell) and rhombic, ellipsoidal to elongated.

Most of the species that occur on rock tolerate drought very well.

In the course of an extensive phylogenetic investigation of the Teloschistaceae family, including markers from the rRNA , the extensive and heterogeneous genus Caloplaca was split up in 2013 , after which numerous species of Caloplaca are now added to new genera ( e.g. Variospora ), e.g. B. Variospora flavescens .
