Caloplaca aurantia (Pers.) Lightb. is a species of lichen fromthe Teloschistaceae family .

Macroscopic features

Caloplaca aurantia is a crusty lichen, that is, its bed ( thallus ) lies close to the base. The thallus is yellow to orange and is frosted. The marginal lobes close tightly, not arched, but lie flat against the base and not frosted. The apothecia are 0.5 to 3 mm in diameter. The apothecary disk is dark orange. The edge of the apothecia is the same color as the thallus.

Microscopic features

The spores are hyaline , polar 2-celled. The septum is bulging outwards, with the dimensions 10–16 × 7–12 µm.

Spot reaction

The thallus and the apothecary disc turn red when drizzled with potassium hydroxide (K +).

distribution

The lichen occurs on lime-rich stone, concrete and mortar in warm, low-precipitation areas.
