features

Macroscopic features

Caloplaca chlorina is a crusty lichen, which means that its bed ( thallus ) lies close to the base. The thallus is thick, cracked, areolated , gray and without a clear edge. The apothecia are 0.5 to 1 mm in diameter. The apothecary disk is orange to brown-orange. The edge of the apothecia is closed in the form of a bud when it is young, with a dark gray edge. In old age, these break open and form a border of apothecia, which is the same color as the thallus.

Microscopic features

The spores are hyaline , polar 2-celled, 10–17 × 4–10 µm.

Spot reaction

The thallus does not change color when it is drizzled with potassium hydroxide solution (K-) and the apothecary disk changes color to red (K +).
