Theodor Magnus Fries

Theodor (Thore) Magnus Fries (born October 28, 1832 in the parish of Femsjö , Jönköpings län ; † March 29, 1913 in Uppsala ) was a Swedish botanist . His official botanical author's abbreviation is “ Th.Fr. "; earlier the abbreviation “ Th.Fries jr. " in use.

Live and act

The son of the botanist Elias Magnus Fries (1794–1878) began studying at Uppsala University in 1851 . As early as 1853 he became an assistant at the local botanical garden and museum. In 1857 he became a lecturer in botany, in 1862 an adjunct of the same and economics. Fries, a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences since 1865 , was appointed professor of botany in 1877 and studied lichen intensively . He served as rector of Uppsala University from 1893 to 1899 . From 1902 to 1903 he wrote a two-volume biography about Carl von Linné (1707–1778).
