habitat

Distribution area

The chameleon species has specialized in terms of habitat. It lives specifically only on the wooded slopes of the Tsiafajavona Mountain in the Ankaratra massif in the heart of Madagascar . There they live at an altitude between 1800 and 2000 meters above sea level in smaller groups of trees along mountain streams and in the mountain forest, preferably on pines.

The chameleons have relatively small occipital lobes. The helmet is flattened and rises towards the rear, the scales are coarse and irregular. As a camouflage color, the species has dark gray, brown, beige and green colors.

The courtship takes place every day for animals living in captivity. The male's helmet turns red and blue, the rest of the body is a mixture of green and yellow. If copulation is successful , after 40 days 6 to 8 eggs are deposited in a burrow dug by the female or under stones. The young hatch after about 90 days.
