Calypogeia (German Bartkelchmoose ) is a genus of liverworts from the family Calypogeiaceae .
features
The pale green to bluish green, prostrate or partially ascending plants usually form flat lawns. The overshot (the upper edge of a leaf covers the lower edge of the next higher leaf) flank leaves are arranged in two rows and often densely tiled, the leaf shape is ovate to broadly ovate or triangular, the tip of the leaf is rounded or short bilobed. Sub-leaves are always present, they are usually wider than the stem, about as long as they are wide and more or less deeply divided into two parts at the tip. At the base of the lower leaves there is a small-cell rhizoid initial field from which numerous rhizoids often arise. The leaf cells are relatively large, thin-walled and have 2 to 13 grape-shaped, colorless or blue oil bodies . Spore capsules are cylindrical, but are rarely present. On the other hand, greenish piles of one- to two-celled brood bodies are often formed at the tips of upright flagella-like shoots .
distribution
The genus is almost cosmopolitan, it is absent in desert areas and in the Arctic.
Systematics and types
Around 35 species are differentiated worldwide. The genus is well characterized, but within the genus it is difficult to differentiate between some species. Until the beginning of the 20th century, only three species were distinguished from the European species ( C. arguta , C. fissa , C. trichomanis ).
The following species are represented in Germany, Austria and Switzerland:
- Calypogeia arguta
- Calypogeia azurea
- Calypogeia fissa
- Calypogeia integristipula
- Calypogeia muelleriana
- Calypogeia neesiana
- Calypogeia sphagnicola
- Calypogeia suecica
