Calypogeiaceae is a family of liverworts from the order Jungermanniales .

features

The Calypogeiaceae belong to the group of leafed liverworts . They are small to medium-sized, prostrate to partially ascending plants that are not or only slightly branched. Stolons are absent. The stems have entire, partly two-pointed flank leaves. The leaf position is overshot, that is, the upper edge of one leaf covers the lower edge of the next leaf. The leaf cells are relatively large, thin-walled and have 2 to 13 grape-shaped, usually colorless oil bodies. Lower leaves are present in these plants, they are undivided or bilobed and have a small-cell rhizoid initial field at their base, from which numerous rhizoids often arise.

Gametangia stands are located on short branches that stand in the axils of the sub-leaves. Instead of a perianth, a marsupium is formed, this is a sack-like archegonia container sunk into the substrate, which envelops the young sporogon. The spore capsule is cylindrical to ovoid. Often brood bodies are formed on the shoot tips pointing upwards; these are used for vegetative reproduction.
