The Jungermanniales are an order of leafy liverworts . The order was first described by Hugo Erich Meyer von Klinggräff (1820–1902). Its name goes back to the German doctor and botanist Ludwig Jungermann , after whom Carl von Linné named the genus Jungermannia .

The Jungermanniales have long been understood as one of the largest groups of liverworts and comprised several thousand species. Today they are a purely molecular-genetic defined order. Although their relationship is certain, they do not share any special morphological features ( synapomorphies ) with one another.
