The Jungermanniaceae are a species-rich family of mosses . They belong to the order of the Jungermanniales and to the group of the leafy liverworts .

features

The Jungermanniaceae have flat, entire-margined flank leaves that are rather round, oval, tongue-shaped, or rarely indented or briefly bilobed at the top. The sub-leaves are small, spear-shaped and are often hidden in a felt of rhizoids . The sub-leaves are missing on sterile stems. The cells contain large bodies of oil .

The shell around the archegonia (perianth) is free or slightly raised, it can also be missing and only rudimentary.

Common features of the representatives of this family are elongated or round, undershot , entire leaves.
