The Gymnomitriaceae are a moss family from the order of the Jungermanniales .

features

The plants grow in cushion-shaped lawns that are often very brownish or reddish in color. The trunks stand upright. The flank leaves are set across, have two lobes and are folded in the shape of a canoe or a channel. There are no sub-leaves. Each cell contains two to three large bodies of oil . The tissue of the stem forms a short tube around the archegonia , the so-called perygynium. A perianth is present and is clearly surmounted by the bracts. It can also be reduced or completely absent. Brood bodies are not formed.
