Caminha or Matriz is a place and a former municipality ( Freguesia ) and Vila (German small town ) in the northern Portuguese district of Caminha . The place is at the mouth of the Rio Minho in the Atlantic.
The community had 1327 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).
On September 29, 2013, the municipalities of Caminha (Matriz) and Vilarelho were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Caminha (Matriz) e Vilarelho . Caminha (Matriz) is the seat of this newly formed community.
