The dark bellflower ( Campanula pulla ) - also Austrian bellflower - belongs to the genus of bellflowers ( Campanula ) in the family of bellflower plants (Campanulaceae).

description

The herbaceous perennial plant grows to a height of between 5 and 15 (20) centimeters. The stem is bare or bristly at the base, mostly leafless above. All stem leaves are notched, with the blades of the lower and middle ones being rounded, elliptical or ovate and narrowed into the short leaf stalk. The nodding to pendulous flowers are usually solitary. The blue-violet crown is 5 to 25 millimeters long.

The flowering period is from June to August.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 34.

Occurrence

The limestone species prefers moist rock and rock debris and snow soils ( snow valleys ) from subalpine to alpine elevation as a location . The species is endemic in Austria (especially in the north-eastern Limestone Alps) and is found scattered to often in Lower Austria (east to Schneeberg and Rax), Upper Austria , Styria , Carinthia (very rarely) and Salzburg .
