After Ohaco had already scored 1-0 for Argentina after two minutes in the opening game, Chile was able to equalize a little surprisingly shortly before the break. In the second half, however, the Argentines took the lead again in the 60th and 62nd minutes with two penalty kicks from defender Juan Brown. After two more goals each by Marcovecchio and Ohaco within 13 minutes, Chile had no chance. In the 89th minute, the 6: 1 followed by Marcovecchio, who was the third player to score a brace. This big win was only followed by a draw against Brazil, with the hosts taking the lead in the 10th minute. However, they had to accept the Brazilian equalizer after just under fifteen minutes, which meant that a win in the last game against Uruguay was necessary to become South American champions in front of their home crowd. The rivals from Uruguay had won both games, so one draw was enough for them. After a goalless draw between the two teams, Uruguay became the first winners of the Campeonato Sudamericano and Argentina only finished second, one point behind.
