history

In 1890 the Canadian pharmacist John J. McLaughlin opened a soda water factory in Toronto . From 1904 he produced Canada Dry Pale Ginger Ale . The shipping of his product to New York from 1919 made it so well known that after a short time he opened another factory in Manhattan . Eventually PD Saylor and Associates bought the McLaughlin business and Canada Dry Ginger Ale, Inc. was born.

Canada Dry's popularity as a mixed drink began during Prohibition , because its aroma helped mask the taste of homemade alcohol.

In the 1930s Canada Dry expanded globally, and from the 1950s onwards the company began manufacturing a wider range of products.

Today Canada Dry is part of the Dr Pepper Snapple Group . The ginger ale bottle still has a map of Canada in its logo.
