The Canadian Kennel Club ( French . Club canin canadien , acronym CKC or CCC ) is the largest umbrella organization of dog breeding in Canada . Its registrations are mutually recognized by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI), the American Kennel Club (AKC) and the British Kennel Club (KC). Its legal seat is in Etobicoke , Toronto , Ontario Province . The non-commercial association currently recognizes 175 different dog breeds . The CKC has around 25,000 members organized into 700 racial and other clubs.

history

Even before it was founded, dog shows were often held in Canada , which at that time took place under the rules of the (US) American Kennel Club. In the mid-1880s, Canada felt the need to establish its own national umbrella organization, which led to the establishment of the CKC in London (Ontario) in 1888 . As a result, there was close cooperation between CKC and AKC. From 1889, the association published the Kennel Gazette as an official publication, the name of which was changed to Kennel and Bench in 1912 . In 1915, the association was recognized under the Canadian Animal Pedigree Act as an Incorporated Society and thus obtained an official mandate to keep the stud books of the dog breeds recognized by it.

activities

The CKC organizes dog shows, field trials, tracking, obedience , agility , greyhound races and other dog-related activities. On these occasions, dogs can earn points that entitle them to acquire the Canadian Championship in the respective disciplines.

In addition, the CKC maintains the Foundation CKC Foundation , which researches supported with dog respect, general information about the dog-human relationship is to spread and, if necessary lobbying operates in the interests of dog owners and -züchtern.
