The São Gonçalo Canal is a natural canal ( sea channel ) in southern Brazil .

The waterway is located in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul and connects the Laguna Merín with the Lagoa dos Patos . At its eastern end it separates the cities of Rio Grande and Pelotas from one another. The most important tributary is the Río Piratiní .
