The Canmore Nordic Center Provincial Park is a provincial park in the Canadian province of Alberta . It is along the Trans-Canada Highway , directly west of Canmore and 65 miles west of Calgary . The park has an area of 4.5 km² and is part of the Kananaskis Country Park System. The park is an IUCN Category II ( National Park ) protected area .
The Canmore Nordic Center was originally built for the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics . The biathlon and cross-country skiing competitions as well as the Nordic combined were held here.
In 2005 the center was renovated for the cross-country world cup and future international sporting events. There are over 60 km of cross-country and biathlon trails in the park. The summer offer in the park includes over 100 km of hiking trails and mountain bike routes, four orienteering trails and a disc golf course with 18 lanes.
After the Biathlon World Cup was hosted at the Canmore Nordic Center for the competitions in the 1993/94 season , he returned for the competitions in the 2015/16 season.
