The Cannonball cliffs are cliffs of 500 m altitude on the eastern side of the West Antarctic Alexander Island . They rise up on the south side of the mouth of the Neptune Glacier in the George VI Sound .
The cliffs were using Trimetrogon -Luftaufnahmen the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947-1948) and by measurements of the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey charted from 1948 to 1950. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1974 after numerous concretions containing the sandstone in this area and as a " cannonball " -Konkretionen ( English cannon-ball concretions are known).
