Canso is an approximately 27 kilometers large impact crater on Mars . It is located around 450 kilometers west of the landing site of the Mars probe Viking 1 and even closer to Kasei Vallis .
It was named by the Canadian astronomer Carlyle Smith Beals after his place of birth. The name was recognized by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in 1988 .
