Cantera is free chemoinformatics software that is used to solve reaction kinetics problems. The software is used in the field of microelectronics , in the automotive sector for combustion processes and in the chemical processing industry.

The software was developed from 1998 by Dave Goodwin (†) at the California Institute of Technology and programmed in C ++ , but can be used with Fortran , Python and the Matlab toolkit . Cantera has the functionality of CHEMKIN -II with some additional extensions. The software is used in teaching in the lectures at the universities of Caltech , Berkeley and Stanford . It is distributed as free software also in the source code under the terms of the revised BSD license .
