Canterbury

Canterbury is a district of the Australian city of Melbourne and is located about 10 km east of the city center in Boroondara City . Canterbury is named after John Manners-Sutton, 3rd Viscount Canterbury , who was Governor of the British Crown Colony of Victoria from 1866 to 1873 .

In 1870 a post office was opened in Canterbury. In 1882 a railway connection to Melbourne was established.

The area was first subdivided in 1885 when Michael Logan opened the Claremont Park Estate in the Canterbury Road, Bryson Street, Prospect Hill Road and Logan Street district.

Canterbury is now considered one of Melbourne's most affluent districts.
