The Isola dei Cantieri, or simply Cantieri, is a narrow island in the Venice Lagoon that runs from north to south . It has an area of 8.01 hectares and is located immediately east of Chioggia and west of Isola dell'Unione . The connecting road (with a 700 m long bridge called Ponte Traslagunare) leads over this island and Cantieri from Chioggia to Sottomarina and from there southwards to the mainland.

history

In 1289 the church of San Domenico was built on the island. The current building was built between the 14th and 18th centuries. There, next to a monumental crucifix from around 1300, there are paintings by Tintoretto (a crucifixion) and by Vittore Carpaccio (St. Paul from 1520).

There is a large fish market on Cantieri, which according to plans from 2005 should be relocated to Isola dei Saloni . The port, as it is burdened with considerable road traffic like the market on the island, should disappear. The adjacent Laguna del Lusenzo is to be made more accessible to pedestrians and greened. The Tenze, once a small business in the field of shipping and fishing, are to be restored.
