The Canton Fair , fully Canton Import and Export Fair , German  Canton Fair or Canton Trade Fair , Chinese (. Abbreviation : 广交会 ; traditional characters : 廣交會 ) is China's largest import and export fair in Canton , China .

meaning

Organized by the Foreign Trade Center , a department of the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China , the fair is the largest import and export fair in China with around 200,000 visitors from 200 countries, over 15,000 exhibitors and around USD 60 billion in trade deals annually. The fair is held twice a year, in the second half of April and October, in the southern Chinese city of Kanton . It has traditionally focused on the export of goods, with goods imports, services such as advertising and logistics gaining in importance. Sales recently suffered (as of 2019) from the trade conflict between the United States and the People's Republic of China .

history

The Canton Fair has been held since the spring of 1957. When it was founded - and until well into the 1970s - it was the only trade fair in China with foreign business contacts. The city of Canton offered itself due to its proximity to Hong Kong, which is only about 200 km away . Canton has also been one of China's export ports since the 19th century.

The Liuhua exhibition center from the 1970s is located in the historic Yuexiu district not far from the main train station.

Fairground

For several years now, the canton fair has been relocated to the 10.5 km² exhibition center in the Haizhu district south of the Pearl River, which was newly built in 2000 , as the old exhibition center is overloaded and is now used by smaller trade fairs.
