Cape Decision Lighthouse is a lighthouse ( English Lighthouse ) in Alaska . It stands on the southern tip of Kuiu Island and describes the Decision Passage , a connection from Chatham Strait to Sumner Strait.
history
Preparations for the construction of the lighthouse began in September 1929. After the concrete shell had been completed , work on the interior and equipment of the station began in July 1931. The beacon and foghorn were officially put into operation on March 15, 1932. At times, a radio beacon was also operated at the station .
Cape Decision was the first lighthouse in Alaska to be operated electrically. As early as 1974 the automation and the withdrawal of the three beacon keepers took place . The original optics, a 3rd order Fresnel lens , was replaced by a VRB-25 in 1996 . The old lens is now on display in the Clausen Museum in Petersburg .
The station has belonged to the Cape Decision Lighthouse Society since 2004 and on February 2, 2005 it was recognized as a Historic District under the name Cape Decision Light Station and included in the National Register of Historic Places .
