The Chatham Strait is along a warp extending strait in the panhandle of the State of Alaska . It is located in the Alexander Archipelago and runs between Chichagof Island and Baranof Island in the west and Admiralty Island and Kuiu Island in the east.
The Chatham Strait begins in the north at the intersection of Icy Strait and Lynn Canal and leads in a straight line south for a length of 240 km to the open sea. It is between 5 and 16 km wide. Frederick Sound branches off to the east between Kuiu and Admiralty Island .
The Alaska Marine Highway ferries operate in Chatham Strait and call at Angoon Harbor .
