Cape North ( English for Cape North or North Cape ) is a large, rocky, snow-covered and 500 m high cliff on the north and east sides on the Pennell coast of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . The cape limits the entrance from the Somow Sea to the Nielsen Fjord to the west .
The striking rock formation was probably discovered and named by the British navigator and explorer James Clark Ross during the Antarctic expedition from 1839 to 1841. The name of the cape is misleading, however, as it is not the northernmost land formation in the area. This is due to Cape Hooker further east .
