Capo d'Orso

The striking rock at the summit of Capo d'Orso is a frequently visited lookout point

The or the Capo d'Orso is a conspicuous headland , a cape , on the northeast coast of the Italian Mediterranean island of Sardinia , about three kilometers east of the port city of Palau .

It owes its name, translated "Cape of the Bear", to a prominent rock near the summit, the Punta d'Orso , this protrusion of the Sardinian mountain coast. With particular forms of weathering - as Wollsackverwitterung , weathering rinds and Tafoni - grew out of the granite here a rock figure, resembling a bear remembers and is visible because of the size and prominent location high above the sea well. The Capo d'Orso is one of the landmarks of the Gallura area and is part of an impressive coastal landscape in the north of the Costa Smeralda . From the top of the cliff, also known as the “rock bear”, you can see the La Maddalena archipelago and the neighboring French island of Corsica .
