The Carapace nunatak is a distinctive and isolated nunatak in East Antarctica Victoria Land . It rises 13 km southwest of Mount Brooke near the head of the Mackay Glacier as a landmark that can be seen from afar.
The New Zealand crew of the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1955-1958) named it after the shells ( carapaces ) of small crustaceans found here .
