The Carcajou River is a left tributary of the Mackenzie River in the Canadian Northwest Territories .

The Carcajou River rises in the Canyon Ranges , a part of the Mackenzie Mountains . The river flows through the mountains in an easterly direction, taking in the Little Keele River from the left. It reaches the Mackenzie lowlands and now flows in a north-northeast direction along the edge of the mountain. The Carcajou River takes on several left tributaries, including the Imperial River . Eventually the river flows into the Mackenzie River not far from the mouth of the Mountain River. The Carcajou River has a length of about 290 km. Its mean discharge is 70 m³ / s.
