The Mountain River ( English for "mountain river") is a left tributary of the Mackenzie River in the Canadian Northwest Territories .
The Mountain River rises west of Backbone Peak in the Mackenzie Mountains . It flows through the Backbone and Canyon Ranges in an easterly direction. The river passes five gorges before it reaches the lowland of the Mackenzie River and finally flows into it 50 km south of Fort Good Hope . The river has a length of 370 km. The catchment area covers 13,500 km².
The Mountain River is a popular white water body for canoeists . The river is navigable with a two-week canoe tour. The degree of difficulty of the rapids is II-III.
