Carinotetraodon is a genus from the family of puffer fish (Tetraodontidae). It is native to Southeast Asia. All fish in the genus are freshwater puffer fish. Some species are kept as ornamental fish in aquariums.

features

The crested puffer fish of the genus Carinotetraodon show a clear sexual dimorphism and dichromatism . The males of all six known species show a drawing that clearly distinguishes them from the females. Adult males have a belly and back folds that they can set up in the event of threat or courtship. The raised skin fold is reminiscent of the raised comb of a rooster, from which the name "Comb puffer fish" is derived. Carinotetraodon travancoricus was only included in the current genus a few years ago based on bone examinations . Before that it belonged to the genus Tetraodon .
